Ondo Finance has introduced its $185 million U.S. Treasury token, OUSG, to the enterprise-focused XRP Ledger (XRPL), aiming to enhance access for institutional investors.
Key Highlights:
- Round-the-Clock Accessibility: Institutional investors can now mint and redeem OUSG tokens instantly, 24/7, using Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin.
- Tokenized Treasuries Boom: This growing asset class bridges traditional finance and blockchain, offering investors yield opportunities and collateral use.
- Market Reaction: Ondo Finance’s governance token (ONDO) rose by 4% following the announcement.
About OUSG on XRPL
The OUSG token is backed by BlackRock’s USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund (BUIDL). By deploying on XRPL, Ondo Finance aims to deliver faster settlements and operational efficiency compared to traditional systems. The offering is expected to go live within the next six months, according to a blog post by Ondo Finance.
Ripple and Ondo Finance have both committed seed investments to ensure initial liquidity for the token on XRPL, although the exact allocation sizes remain undisclosed.
The Growth of Tokenized Real-World Assets
Tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs) such as bonds, credit, and funds is transforming finance by introducing faster settlements and operational improvements. U.S. Treasury tokens lead this trend, with the asset class growing fourfold in the past year to $3.5 billion, according to rwa.xyz.
Markus Infanger, SVP of RippleX, highlighted the significance of this innovation:
“Tokenized assets like OUSG enable transformative intraday settlement, breaking away from traditional trading hours and slow settlements. These low-risk, high-quality liquidity options enhance accessibility and stability in blockchain markets.”
XRP Ledger’s Expanding Ecosystem
OUSG is now the second tokenized treasury product available on XRPL, following OpenEden’s TBILL. Previously, OUSG was available on Ethereum, Polygon, and Solana, further demonstrating the growing adoption of tokenized treasuries across multiple blockchain ecosystems.
