The spouses who laundered the cryptocurrency stolen from Bitfinex pleaded guilty

According to court documents, a New York couple accused of laundering $4.5 billion worth of cryptocurrencies related to the hacking of the Bitfinex exchange in 2016 has entered into a plea agreement with the federal prosecutor’s office.

Ilya Lichtenstein and Heather Morgan are scheduled to appear at a plea hearing early next month. Federal prosecutors allege that the couple colluded with “other persons known and unknown to the grand jury.”

Morgan, known as the Razzlekhan rap singer, was arrested along with Liechtenstein last year. She is charged with conspiracy to launder money and defraud the United States.

Earlier, a district court judge signed a court order in this case, indicating that it would concern “classified information related to national security”, which only people with special access can access.

This month, Bitfinex paid $312,000 in cash and almost $2,000 in Bitcoin Cash to customers affected by the 2016 hack.
