Trump Celebrates Bitcoin’s 16th Anniversary and Advocates for Ross Ulbricht’s Release

In a recent message on his social media platform, Truth Social, former President Donald Trump extended his congratulations to Bitcoin enthusiasts on the occasion of the 16th anniversary of Satoshi Nakamoto’s influential white paper, which laid the groundwork for the cryptocurrency. Trump stated, “To our great Bitcoiners, I want to congratulate you on the 16th Anniversary of Satoshi’s White Paper. We will end Kamala’s war on cryptocurrencies”.

This announcement comes as Trump continues to position himself as a strong advocate for the crypto community ahead of the upcoming presidential election. Notably, he did not share this message on X (formerly Twitter), where he has a larger following.

In addition to his remarks about Bitcoin, Trump expressed support for Ross Ulbricht, the founder of the notorious Silk Road marketplace. He included a hashtag in his post urging for Ulbricht’s release, reflecting his previous commitment to commute Ulbricht’s sentence if re-elected. Ulbricht is currently serving a double life sentence for his role in facilitating illegal transactions through Silk Road, which reportedly processed over $1 billion in Bitcoin for illicit goods.

Trump’s advocacy for Ulbricht resonates with many libertarian voters who have long campaigned for his release. At a recent Libertarian National Convention, Trump promised that if elected, he would commute Ulbricht’s sentence on his first day in office. This pledge has garnered significant attention from supporters who believe it could sway libertarian voters in Trump’s favor during the election.
